The BTAA – the benefits of membership - JOIN TODAY

Established in 1918 The British Travelgoods & Accessories association (BTAA) is the trade association in the UK which caters for the needs of manufacturers, suppliers, designers & retailers of travel goods, handbags, leather goods & fashion accessories. Becoming a member of the BTAA will save you money on a range of business services, save you time & help grow your business time by providing industry support, as well as  enhancing your credibility in the marketplace.

The BTAA can save you money

Trade fair discounts 

When you exhibit at the following trade Fairs as a BTAA member you are entitled to a 5% rebate* from  the BTAA against the cost of your stand.

  • International Spring Fair 
  • International Autumn Fair
  • Scotland’s Trade Fair  
  • Giving & Living Exeter        

If you exhibit at the following Trade Fair you will receive a 10%* rebate off the cost of your stand.

British Craft Fair in Harrogate

Depending on your stand cost & how many of the above shows you exhibit at it can result in the rebate covering your entire membership fee & in a number of cases you could be entitled to payments in excess your membership fee.*(See website for exclusions)

Legal protection insurance 

You are covered for up to £100 000 worth of legal or accountancy expenses (per claim) that you may incur defending a range of claims against you either professionally or personally. These include employee claims, tax investigations,criminal prosecution, data & licence protection, personal injury & defending or pursuing civil actions relating to trespass or criminal damage to property.

The policy is operated by one of the UK’s most prestigious law firms & advice as how to respond to any claim is available via the legal helpline 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition you are entitled to unlimited commercial & personal legal advice via the legal helpline.

Reduced business insurance rates 

Via an insurance company who specialise in the accessories, gift & jewellery sectors. Their knowledge of your sector ensures you receive the right advice and therefore insurance cover for your business. 

As brokers they can obtain alternative quotes on your behalf tailored to suit your specific needs, saving you considerable amounts of money. They will then give you 5% off the premium they would charge to non members. The combined bespoke policy offered ensures that you will be covered where you need to be ,but you will save money by not being over insured. This policy can include up to £10000 free cover for cancellation costs and loss of expenses regarding Trade fairs, for example if you were unable to attend due to reasons beyond your control. 

The policy also includes public & product liability for any goods you sell in North America & Canada, which most UK insurers will not include in their policies.

Bad debt insurance

The BTAA works closely with a independent company specialising in bad debt insurance.Bespoke packages are created to cater for your particular  needs. Discretionary limits of up to £15000 can be set up per customer (based on aged debtor profile).A low excess of £500 is also provided.

Lower delivery costs

Membership provides a 40 % discount off TNT’s standard UK and international price lists 

This equates to prices as low as £6.95 per consignment for UK deliveries & £19.50 per consignment to Europe.

Discounts are provided off Wacpac’s low cost tariff’s for International courier, airfreight & sea freight around the world.

International department

For a small additional fee of £170.00+vat take advantage of the benefits suppied by the International department of the BTAA, organising british pavilions with support from UKTI at international trade fairs including the NY NOW fairs in August & February, Mega show Part 1-Hong Kong, Paperworld-Frankfurt, Ambiente-Frankfurt, Craft & Hobby Association Show-USA.

Up to 25% off simplyhealth base rates for uninsured business. Comprehensive healthcare package to suit all budgets.

Discounted meeting room/conference facilities 

Use the Jewellery Quarter Conference Centre for your AGM, seminar, meeting or any other event at 25% off the standard room hire rate. The discounted rates for a meeting room start at only £22.50 for half a day & £37.50 for a full day. Conference facilities for 80 people in our Diamond Suite are only £131.25 for half a day & £206.25 for a full day.

Leather testing 

You will receive 10% discount on all leather testing. There is a REACH directive for levels of Chromium V1 content in your leather products. It is vital that you test your leather products for these levels from May 2015 .

Due to the enormous buying power of the British Allied Trades Federation (which represents the interests of more than 2,600 member companies employing 46,000 people & estimated to be worth £22 billion) of which the BTAA is a part the BTAA can provide savings on a whole range of business services These include:-

You are entitled to 2 hours free consultancy & advice .Further advice is available at a rate of £75 per hour.We can supply a wealth of information on where to have products manufactured,retail databases, designer contacts,agents,  suppliers and other companies you may want to work with. We advise on current business trends & market opportunities.Information is provided on current legislation (fore example REACH ,import regulations etc.

Networking 

The BTAA can facilitate communication between other members,suppliers & retailers to create business opportunities.

BTAA Fashion Accessory Of The Year 

Held every year on the first Sunday of Autumn Fair on the Fashion Catwalk in Hall  4 this prestigious event allows you to present your products to a huge audience & raise your profile within the industry.There are 5 categories to enter Luggage & Travel,Fashion Handbags,Small Leathergoods,Fashion Jewellery & Fashion Accessories The winner receives £500 towards their stand at Autumn Fair & Highly Commended £100 towards their stand at Autumn Fair .All winners & Highly commended receive a glass engraved Trophy.

Lobby government on trading issues with overseas countries & European legislation which member companies are exposed to. 

Being part of an industry body adds weight to addressing the government on international trading agreements & legislation.

Design Protection

Protect your designs with our “Copywatch” scheme.You can log your designs with us via a design deposit at the time the design was created.
