23 January 2017 Return to news listings

New plans were unveiled today for a new, more interventionist, industrial strategy, designed to boost the post-Brexit UK economy.  Please click the link below to download the full report.

Building our Industrial Strategy: Green Paper

While the title of the report leans towards ‘Industrial’ strategy, the report does cover areas that may be of interest to the British Travelgoods, Handbags & Accessories Industry, such as: -

  • Investing in science, research and innovation
  • Developing skills
  • Supporting business to start and grow
  • Encouraging trade and inward investment
  • Driving growth across the whole country

Business & Energy Secretary Greg Clark said:

“This is an important step in building a modern, dynamic industrial strategy that will improve living standards and drive economic growth across the whole country. A modern British Industrial Strategy must build on the UK's strengths and extend excellence into the future; close the gap between the UK's most productive companies, industries, places and people and the rest; and ensure we are one of the most competitive places in the world to start and grow a business.

"We are inviting businesses and workers to contribute to this vision to help us create a high-skilled economy where every place can meet its potential."

Take part in the consultation

The green paper sets out how we propose to build our industrial strategy. It is not intended to be the last word, but to start a consultation.

We hope anyone with an interest will respond. We welcome your comments as part of a broad discussion on the approach and ideas we have set out, in order to make the industrial strategy effective in delivering an economy that works for everyone.
