Learning to Accessorize

I’m always careful and protective to my belongings, and I believe most other people are too.  Like others, I safeguard my belongings, as much as I can, against damage, loss or theft.  That could represent a problem if, as an industry, we only sold luggage.

Thankfully, there are travel accessories too.

By their very nature, accessories are highly specialised items.  For retailers and manufacturers, that’s magical.

Accessories are also critical because we’re often driven to buy them for reasons beyond our control, including the power of impulse buying.

For example, last month I had to replace my mobile phone. Not only did I have to buy a new mobile phone, but then the pouch and matching handbag of course – well, I am a women after all.

And this is how if often happens.  A new laptop requires a new laptop bag or business tote, a digital camera received as a gift needs a dedicated case, and so it goes on.

There’s a lot more innovation in accessories, simply because our lives are becoming more saturated with technology.  How many of us carried mobile phones a decade ago?  Or, for that matter, how many of us travelled with computers?  At airports now, all we see in the shops are travel accessories and they have become big business.  And that can only be a good thing for the travel goods industry.
